JOB SUMMARY
The QC Engineer is responsible to drive quality improvements in an effort to reduce the cost of poor quality by utilizing quality system tools and techniques that ensure the manufacturing of quality products consistent with the company’s Quality Policy.
Responsibilities include:
- Quality Liaison between Armor Metal team, Armor Metal vendors and Armor Metal customers
- Develop and initiate methods and procedures for inspection, testing and evaluation
- Coordinate and/or perform inspections, monitor required tests, per the contract plan and specifications
- Compile, analyze, summarize and maintain pertinent records of inspection and testing through the project life cycle.
- Ensure that Non-Conformance reporting is raised once the activities have deviated from the contract specifications for internal and external issues
- Stop work in areas where discrepancies remain uncorrected and authorize work to re-start once deficiencies are corrected
- Investigate quality complaints and work with appropriate department managers, and QC Techs,
to ensure corrective measures are applied to prevent future occurrences
- Maintain charts, graphs, and statistical records pertaining to the quality, nature and cause of defects
- Facilitate 5 WHY exercises, corrective/preventative action investigation, 8D problem solving, FMEA’s and other recognized techniques to determine root cause
- Lead Continuous Improvement efforts using Six Sigma tools and activities
- Coordinate and/or perform First Article Inspection, First Article Testing and contract review on government contracts
- Coordinate with Sales department and Aftermarket department on customer requirements and complaints
- Develop and deliver continuous improvement related training
- Work with engineering, manufacturing and purchasing teams to improve quality
- Schedule and conduct internal audits and report findings to management
- Manage the CAR/CAP process including issuance, follow-up, verification and closure
- Manage the First Pass Yield reporting including Pareto Analysis of problem areas
- Interface with all plant facilities regarding QC issues, protocols, techniques, etc.
- May assist other QC personnel and delegate tasks
- Additional items as assigned by manager
PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE COMPANY
This position routinely interacts with project management, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, service, sales, suppliers and customers. There will be occasional communication with Senior Management.
COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Proficient in GD&T and Blueprint Reading
- Basic knowledge/understanding of Six Sigma required
- Must be able to apply skilled mechanical inspection methods
- Working knowledge and application of ISO9001
- Ability to lead cross functional teams during problem solving activities
- Must have an understanding of engineering and manufacturing principals
- Must have an understanding of SPC
- Must have experience creating and presenting information to internal and external groups
- Works with minimal direction and has wide decision making latitude
- Strong verbal/written communication and interaction skills
- Detail oriented with the ability to utilize available time to complete work within given deadlines
- Must be an experienced MS OFFICE user (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to multi-task and maintain a high level of efficiency and accuracy
- Experience with government contracts, including ITAR is preferred
- Experience with CE marking is preferred

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or equivalent is required
- Minimum of five years of quality experience working within a engineered/manufactured production environment
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer is preferred
- Formal Auditor training is required

Personal Computer, Facsimile Machine, Telephone, Copier, Quality Measurement Tools (including micrometer ,calipers & CMM)
WORKING AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
The position will be required to work both in the office setting as well as the manufacturing floor. When in manufacturing there could be bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, and light lifting. There may also be some occasional travel (visiting customer, vendors, seminars, etc.)
