JOB SUMMARY
The Field Service Technician, under minimum supervision of the Field Service Manager shall facilitate all coach delivery and repair activity. The “Mobile” field service technician must be able to travel daily and be able to diagnose all coach problems reported. The service technician must be able to either repair directly or coordinate repairs through original major assembly OEM or coach repair facilities local to customers. The job requires a strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and prior experience troubleshooting similar equipment and circuits.
Responsibilities include:
  • 24/7 availability to respond to customer emergencies.
  • Maintains rapport with customers by examining complaints; identifying solutions; suggesting improved methods and techniques; recommending system improvements.
  • Perform regularly scheduled planned maintenance to test performance of mechanical and electrical assemblies and to make adjustments as required to maintain coach to manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose coach part and system failures through review of engineering drawings, schematics, diagrams, and technical orders to determine cause of failure.
  • Perform repairs, adjustments, and replacements of defective components.
  • Documents service and installation actions by completing service reports, logs, and performance checklists.
  • Maintain service schedule for all coach regularly scheduled maintenance and service repair calls.
  • Pre-Qualify service contractors that are local to customer facility. Service providers must be certified in the repair and maintenance of similar coach products. Service providers must have solid reputation and ability to provide quality repairs at competitive rates.
  • Coordinate OEM warranty repairs on major coach systems such as engine, drive train, frame, generators and air conditioners.
PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE COMPANY
This position interacts with Company employees, Service Providers, equipment OEM dealers, Customers and Customer representatives.
COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to proficiently read and write in English language to communicate with customers and complete requires service intervention documentation.
  • Most hold and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License class B (CDL).
  • Own and be proficient in use of basic tools necessary to repair and maintain coaches.
  • Must be able to read mechanical assembly drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Must have proficient troubleshooting skills to identify common coach problems within the electrical, HVAC, and hydraulic circuits. Must be capable of using a volt meter to review and validate circuit amperage and voltage levels.
  • Must have basic proficiency in making repairs requiring wiring, soldering, and mechanical adjustment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma
  • Need a minimum of three years of experience in mechanical assembly/test work.
EQUIPMENT USED
LIST COMMON EQUIPMENT USED: Hand held tools, Power tools, lifting equipment, volt meter, and assorted test equipment.
WORKING AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
This position will require extended travel during the week as well as on weekends. Weekend work is often on short notice. Time on site is steady days and requires technician to remain onsite until work is completed. Majority of the service calls are performed alone and may require interaction with customer or a customer’s representative.
