Senior Accountant
Summary Description:
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with the accounting processes necessary to prepare financial statements that meet all regulatory and accounting guidelines. You will be responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies and helping set up control systems. This position primarily provides support to the Controller, but also works closely with other Finance leaders supporting the Company.
Duties:
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting for Canada and Australia entities.
- Prepares the monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts. Assists leading review of all reconciliations on a monthly basis with upper management.
- Assist with external audit and tax support. Prepares schedules required for year-end financial statement audit and 401(k) plan.
- Manages expense reimbursement and general accounting functions. Executes required payments in a cash advantageous manner. Manages payment documents (checks, wire transfers, EFT) to ensure proper documentation exists and files are maintained to be compliant with audit expectations.
- Assists Controller with development and updating of financial policies and procedures.
- Advises on the application of GAAP to financial transactions and statements. Assists with the implementation of new standard applicable to the Company.
- Recommend and drive continuous improvements for the accounting processes.
- Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Evaluates nexus and prepares sales/use tax returns, Canadian Revenue Agency returns, and other miscellaneous tax returns as required by local jurisdictions.
- Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
- Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Assists with special projects as required
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- B.S. degree in Accounting
- CPA or MBA designation encouraged, not required
- 5+ years minimum experience
- Corporate manufacturing experience or public accounting firm experience including affiliations with successful manufacturing companies, direct experience with manufacturing firms, or a combination of both
Specific Skills:
- Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and well-developed financial analysis capabilities
- Excellent technical skills (GAAP and GAAS)
- Continuous improvement focused
- Extensive experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel) and Great Plains or similar ERP system
- Comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities
- Strong analytical and reasoning abilities
- Superior numeric skills
- Well organized
- Deadline oriented
- Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, flexible
- Ability to establish credibility and be decisive; able to recognize and support the organization's preferences and priorities
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, bend, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten and or typed material and must have the ability to focus.
