Job Description

U.S. Bank Europe (USBE) has approved it’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy focused on compliance and management of ESG Risks.

The ESG Europe Office team is responsible for delivering in three critical areas: (1) Europe-Wide ESG strategy, transformation, and integration (2) reporting and disclosures (3) external partnerships and engagement.

The ESG Europe Office is part of USBE’s CAO Function (exact reporting lines TBD) and interacts closely with the U.S. Bank Sustainability Office.

The ESG Lead helps deliver on U.S. Bank Europe’s ESG strategy through partnerships with key business lines and outside experts, developing and implementing programs to achieve key business outcomes. These outcomes include: staying on par with our peers, reducing ESG risk, identifying business opportunities, driving awareness of ESG criteria and potential impact and opportunities for U.S. Bank Europe, ensuring thoughtful and consistent communication around ESG efforts, and encouraging employee engagement. These outcomes are achieved through participation in and leading key working groups and other business line touch point opportunities, participation in external peer group opportunities, and staying up to date on industry and internal developments that may impact U.S. Bank Europe’s ESG strategy. The ESG Lead will also serve as a key subject matter expert regarding U.S. Bank Europe’s ESG strategy, pulling together work across the company into one cohesive story and supporting communications around these efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Executes medium and large-scale, programs and projects to integrate ESG criteria into the company's business strategy and operations.
• Maintains, leads and directs the European ESG Forum including data, KPIs, KRIs and agenda topics.
• Maintains a pragmatic and forward looking view on regulatory compliance across our jurisdictions, including proportionality and maturity over time.
• Manage and/or participate in aspects of reporting and disclosure, data assurance processes, employee engagement and internal status reporting.
• Maintain strong relationships within the industry, government and NGOs and other external stakeholders to understand how the overall landscape is evolving, and how USBE’s strategy should evolve with it.
• Identifying gaps and opportunities in USBE’s ESG strategy, Providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
• Stay abreast of the current risk environment and work with business line risk partners to evaluate risk and assess current policy.
• Stays informed on the changing landscape of ESG including emerging trends, stakeholder expectations, and rating/ranking criteria
• Constantly benchmark and monitor trends to improve U.S. Bank’s ESG standing
• Lead and/or participate in strategic approach and annual responses to rating and ranking entities.
• Identify opportunities for expanded disclosure, gain alignment from internal decision makers.
• Consults with and advises teams on local ESG initiatives.
• Collaborates with HR on ensuring appropriate ESG Objectives are established.
• Building collaborative relationships with executive and senior management to agree tangible actions to progress the ESG strategy.
• Presenting to executive leadership on progress against the strategy.

SPECIFICATIONS:

• Working independently helps to identify gaps and opportunities within ESG strategy.
• A working knowledge in ESG rating/evaluation systems and frameworks is required.
• Works with senior leaders (externally and internally) and support multiple projects or programs.
• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills to consult with internal teams on goals, strategies, and key initiatives. Strong influencing skills as well as proven project management and communication skills.
• Strong data management and reporting skills are preferred.
• Understanding of external frameworks such as Basel III, EBA Guidelines, CSRD, GRI, ISSB.
• Well-developed reporting, oral, written and communication skills.
• Requires a bachelors’s degree and at least six years of project management or a related field of work.
