Job Description
The BLA Test Lead is a senior individual contributor role responsible for leading end to end test strategy and business readiness for Consumer Product strategic initiatives impacting Deposits and Unsecured Lending, with a strong focus on customer facing digital experiences and working knowledge of current state E2E process flows.
This role provides leadership in test strategy, readiness planning, defect management, and outcome validation to support informed go live and governance decisions, including PRISM approvals. The BLA Test Lead operates flexibly across initiatives of varying size, complexity, and risk, partnering closely with Product, Delivery, Technology, Risk, and Compliance teams. This position is a leader in testing and readiness craft, not a people manager.
Key Responsibilities
End‑to‑End Test Strategy & Scope Definition
Lead end‑to‑end (E2E) test strategy for assigned initiatives, explicitly defining and aligning expectations across:
- Functional E2E validation, owned and coordinated by the BLA Test Lead to ensure business intent, requirements, and customer‑facing digital experiences are validated across impacted systems and channels.
- Regression E2E validation, executed in partnership with Technology teams, where regression coverage is validated through established technology testing practices, evidence review, and demonstration of results rather than duplicate BLA execution.
- Clearly document and socialize E2E testing scope, ownership boundaries, and digital channel coverage at the outset of each initiative to prevent misalignment between expectations and execution reality.
Test Planning & Coordination
- Develop and maintain BLA Test Plans in Confluence, ensuring plans are living artifacts that dynamically integrate with Jira to reflect scope, execution status, risks, and defects throughout the initiative lifecycle.
- Coordinate test execution activities across impacted teams, aligning functional validation, regression evidence, timelines, environments, and dependencies to support integrated readiness assessments.
- Define comprehensive functional test scenarios that reflect real‑world usage, operational considerations, and digital customer journeys across mobile and online banking.
Execution Expectations
This role is not a primary test executor. The BLA Test Lead is expected to:
- Lead planning, coordination, validation, and readiness assessment
- Perform targeted or spot execution only when necessary to validate outcomes, investigate risk, or close coverage gaps
- Ensure execution responsibility is appropriately distributed across delivery and technology partners
- Execution involvement is intentional and risk‑based, not routine or volume‑driven.
Defect Management & Readiness Signal
- Own defect management end‑to‑end, with Jira serving as the single source of truth for defect logging, triage, prioritization, remediation tracking, and readiness reporting.
- Analyze defect trends, severity, and aging to provide clear quality and readiness signals, including impacts to customer‑facing digital channels.
Business Readiness, Governance & PRISM Partnership
- Partner with Risk and Compliance to support business readiness and PRISM approval decisions by producing and validating pre‑production artifacts, including test evidence, defect status, and risk assessments.
- Provide structured readiness input ensuring decisions are supported by documented evidence and clear understanding of residual risk.
Post‑Production Validation & Accountability
- Coordinate post‑production validation activities for assigned initiatives, ensuring expectations are defined, ownership is aligned, and outcomes are documented.
- The BLA Test Lead is accountable for ensuring post‑production validation occurs, but execution may be shared across Product, Delivery, Technology, and Risk partners based on initiative scope, digital exposure, and risk.
- Consolidate post‑production validation results to support post‑implementation reviews, governance expectations, and continuous improvement.
Craft Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Act as a senior leader in testing and business readiness craft, setting standards, patterns, and expectations across initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement in digital testing strategies, readiness practices, documentation, and cross‑team coordination while maintaining delivery commitments.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- Six or more years of related experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Demonstrated experience leading end‑to‑end test strategy and readiness for complex, cross‑team initiatives in regulated environments.
- Familiarity with customer‑facing digital experiences across mobile and online banking for deposit and unsecured lending products, including examples such as: Account Dashboards, Smart Rewards / Rewards Dashboards, Money Movement experiences (funding, transfers, payments), Digital shopping and discovery experiences, Digital application flows (e.g., apply journeys)
- Strong understanding of functional vs. regression testing models and how to partner effectively with technology teams to validate outcomes without duplicative execution.
- Proven experience using Jira as the authoritative system of record for defect management and readiness reporting.
- Experience building and maintaining test plans and readiness documentation in Confluence, integrated with Jira.
- Ability to influence and coordinate across Product, Delivery, Technology, Risk, and Compliance partners without direct authority.
- Strong judgment in assessing readiness, identifying material risk, and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills, with the ability to produce clear, audit‑ready artifacts.
- This role is a senior individual contributor; prior people management experience is not required.
