Location: UC Medical Center
Department: Float Pool
Hours: Full Time 36 Hours/Week
Shift: 12 Hour PM, 7 PM-7 AM

UC Health is hiring a Full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Med Surg/ICU Float Pool for the shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Float Pool Nurse will support the Medical Center’s Med Surg/ICU units, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)

Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Clinical Judgment:

  • Clinical reasoning coupled with nursing skills acquired through experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines. Collects basic level data Follows protocols with all populations and does not deviate from them. Matches formal knowledge with clinical events to make decision

Advocacy (Moral Advocacy):

  • Works on another's behalf and represents the concerns of the patient/family and nursing staff. Serves as a moral agent in identifying and helping to resolve ethical and clinical concerns. Works on the behalf of the patients. Makes ethical/moral decisions based on rules. Represents patient when patient cannot represent self. Aware of patient's rights. Maintains patient confidentiality.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.

  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Associate’s Degree, minimum required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred
  • Current OH RN License
  • 3 years of critical care experience (preferred)
