The Director of Clinical Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for Ambulatory Physician Network services, with responsibility for the Float Pool and assigned programs. This leader partners across UC Health, UC Physicians Company, and the UC College of Medicine to support safe, high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered operations.
The Director oversees managers, supervisors, and professional staff across assigned programs and is accountable for operational performance, quality, safety, regulatory compliance, productivity, and financial stewardship. The Director collaborates across UC Health, UC Physicians Company, and the UC College of Medicine and provides 24/7 oversight for assigned operations.
Organizational Scope
Reports to the Vice President, Physician Network. The number of employees supervised varies by assigned area. Potential direct reports include Clinical RN Managers, Clinical Operations Managers and Supervisors, Clinical RN Supervisors, and Program Managers.
Work Environment
Primarily office-based, with travel to clinics, hospitals, and other work locations as needed. Work hours may vary based on business needs. The role involves frequent standing, walking, communication, visual activity, and computer use, with occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
Compensation
Expected starting salary range: $121,461.60 - $153,465.94
Actual pay will depend on experience, skills, education, internal alignment, market factors, and other position requirements.
Operational Leadership
- Lead clinical operations for the Ambulatory Float Pool and assigned Physician Network services, including patient care, quality and safety, patient experience, workforce resources, productivity, financial performance, and strategic growth.
- Direct patient-care workflows and administrative support services while aligning staffing, space, supplies, and equipment with operational needs.
- Participate in the Ambulatory Physician Network leadership on-call rotation and support escalation of facilities, patient-safety, and support-service concerns.
Collaboration, Quality, and Growth
- Partner with clinical, physician, academic, and administrative leaders in a highly matrixed environment to advance service-line and organizational goals.
- Support regulatory and accreditation readiness, performance improvement, and integrated delivery of care.
- Build consensus across teams, strengthen communication, and lead change and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Financial and People Leadership
- Develop and manage operational budgets, business plans, and resource strategies in partnership with Physician Network and departmental leadership.
- Evaluate the operational and financial impact of equipment, technology, procedures, and program investments.
- Lead, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, and professional staff while promoting accountability, engagement, and operational excellence.
- Align matrixed support services, including Revenue Cycle, Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology, with clinical operational priorities.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Business, Finance, or an allied health field required; degree in a clinical or medical field preferred.
- At least four years of equivalent leadership experience required; eleven or more years preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Advanced experience in clinical operations, practice management, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication, collaboration, influence, change-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with patient-centered care, operational efficiency, quality outcomes, value analysis, capital planning, and team development.
