GENERAL FUNCTION:

The United Way of Greater Cincinnati is hiring a Manager of Community Engagement / Labor Relations who supports United Way’s engagement with labor, faith-based, grassroots, and other community partners by building trusted relationships and connecting these networks to meaningful opportunities to participate in United Way’s mission.

This role manages a portfolio of community relationships and works collaboratively across teams to connect partners to volunteer opportunities, workplace engagement, advocacy efforts, and impact initiatives led across the organization. The Manager helps expand United Way’s reach within community networks and ensures partners have clear pathways to participate in United Way’s work over time.

This position requires strong relationship management, cross-team collaboration, and the ability to connect community partners to the organization’s broader priorities.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Community & Labor Relationship Management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with labor, faith-based, grassroots, and community organizations across the region.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between United Way and the Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor leadership.
  • Cultivate new partnerships that expand United Way’s engagement with non-traditional community networks.
  • Community Partner Relationships Development
  • Actively engage new community partners and leaders interested in supporting United Way’s work, aligned to priority neighborhoods and/or issue areas.
  • Identify opportunities to connect partners to volunteering, workplace engagement, advocacy, or impact initiatives.
  • Support long-term engagement strategies that encourage repeat participation and deeper involvement over time.

Cross-Team Engagement Coordination
  • Partner with Resource Development teams to connect community partners to volunteer opportunities and workplace engagement.
  • Partner with Impact teams to connect community networks to impact initiatives and community programs.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure community engagement efforts align with organizational priorities.

Community Representation, Engagement and Coordination Supports
  • Represent United Way within community networks and events to strengthen trust and visibility.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging community needs, partnerships, and opportunities that may support United Way’s mission.
  • Help communicate United Way’s work in ways that resonate with labor, grassroots, and community partners.
  • Support outreach and coordination for community engagement activities and signature events, such as Backpacks for Success and Adopt-a-Family, in partnership with internal teams.
  • Assist in identifying community partners who may host, sponsor, or participate in United Way initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation and tracking of community relationships and engagement activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant professional work experience (ex. Project management, customer service, social sector, volunteer management, etc.).
  • Distinguished oral and written, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills and customer service-focused workstyle.
  • Successfully manages multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Works well under deadline pressure and meets timeline requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature, and the like.
  • Personal transportation required
  • Local travel to events within the regional service area required.
  • Frequent evening and weekend event management required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
SALARY: $60,000- $63,000 (final offer based on level of experience)
