Job Description:
The ODC & Export Operations Team Leader is responsible for overseeing daily Origin Data Capture (ODC) and Export operations, ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations, operational procedures, and quality standards. This role leads employee training and development initiatives, monitors operational performance, manages compliance reporting, and serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for international shipping processes. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with extensive knowledge of export regulations, data capture operations, auditing procedures, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Supervise daily ODC and Export processing activities to ensure accuracy, productivity, and compliance with company standards.
- Ensure all required ODC and Export operational reports are downloaded, reviewed, and archived daily on designated company servers.
- Monitor operational exceptions and drive resolution of issues related to:
- NOP
- DJO
- Origin Holds
- Origin RTS
- KNI
- Maintain operational continuity during peak periods, holidays, contingencies, and emergency situations.
- Provide backup support and operational leadership during critical business needs.
Training & Employee Development
- Develop, implement, and oversee training programs for ODC and Export personnel.
- Maintain an accurate Skills Inventory and Job Breakdown Analysis (JBA) for all operational positions.
- Ensure employees are fully trained and certified to perform essential Data Capture and Export processing functions.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to support employee growth and operational excellence.
- Ensure team members have access to and effectively utilize job aids, training materials, and reference documents.
- Promote cross-training and cross-functional learning opportunities within Operations.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Review Daily Data Capture Audit results and supporting documentation to ensure:
- Audits are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Findings are reviewed and addressed promptly.
- Corrective actions are implemented and monitored for effectiveness.
- Maintain current knowledge of international shipping regulations, network restrictions, prohibited commodities, value limits, and contract-specific requirements.
- Ensure compliance with UPS policies and international shipping standards when processing restricted and high-value shipments.
- Verify approved customer contracts and authorizations are in place when handling shipment exceptions.
- Serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) during internal and external audits and provide professional responses to auditor inquiries.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze operational trends, audit findings, and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Lead process improvement initiatives focused on increasing efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in special projects and business initiatives throughout the year.
- Develop and present recommendations that support operational excellence and business objectives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in operations, logistics, export processing, or a related environment.
- Strong knowledge of international shipping regulations, export procedures, and operational compliance requirements.
- Experience in employee training, coaching, and performance management.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with UPS international shipping processes and network operations is preferred.
- Experience conducting audits and managing quality assurance programs.
- Knowledge of restricted commodities, international trade requirements, and customs-related procedures.
