As a Property Accountant, you will be responsible for providing the full cycle of accounting for an assigned portfolio of properties. This position will focus on all aspects of financial statements, including journal entries, general ledger analysis & review, reconciliations of accounts, distribution of reports, and month-end closing, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements for each entity within the assigned portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements/reporting packages with varying deadlines.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation and all other month-end tasks.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliation.
  • Manage cash flow for the assigned portfolio, including various funding requests.
  • Process replacement reserves according to each property’s funding source.
  • Record and process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including tenant move-outs.
  • Gain a solid understanding of general ledger data and its impact on overall financial data.
  • Submit complete and accurate monthly journal entries, including standard, recurring, reversing, adjusting, reclassifications, prepaid rent, and accruals.
  • Review rental payments and property invoices for correct and accurate coding.
  • Ensure monthly mortgage and other recurring payments are processed timely.
  • Prepare and assist with 1099 processing annually.
  • Verify all cash entries are booked timely and accurately.
  • Assist with completing annual tax credit/rural development forms.
  • Provide coverage for co-workers when out of the office.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor/manager in accordance with business needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or business.
  • Previous experience in the property accounting or commercial real estate space.
  • Interpersonal Abilities:
    • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Consistent attendance and punctuality.
    • Dependability, taking responsibility for own actions, and following through on commitments.
    • High quality and accuracy in work, with a focus on continuous improvement.
    • Strong customer service orientation, handling difficult or emotional matters professionally.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to design workflows and procedures.
