Interim Sr. Accountant (GL and Commissions)

Our client, a prominent online job and company review platform, is seeking an Interim Senior Accountant. This role is 100% remote, with flexibility on US working hours, though the team works PST hours during close (2 days). The Senior Accountant will assist in day-to-day accounting operations, including GL, commissions, intercompany revenue, and ad hoc compliance tasks. This position requires strong US GAAP accounting knowledge, operational experience, attention to detail, and a focus on process improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the monthly close process by preparing or reviewing journal entries for various business transactions, including vendor accruals, leases, intercompany revenue, and commissions.
  • Reconcile and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts for the US and international subsidiaries, providing insightful reporting to stakeholders.
  • Proactively collaborate with FP&A to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, resolve issues independently, and determine appropriate vendor accruals for the month.
  • Work cross-functionally to lead the monthly process of closing the books operationally in NetSuite in accordance with the established close schedule.
  • Review and approve the monthly commissions accrual.
  • Review and approve the monthly commissions payments submitted to payroll on a timely basis.
  • Identify, develop, and implement process improvements, documenting desktop procedures to achieve efficiencies and scalability.
  • Partner with other teams to develop the appropriate revenue recognition process and record revenue timely and accurately when new products are offered.
  • Drive effective partnership, communication, collaboration, and commitment with leasing, revenue, and financial reporting teams.
  • Assist with accounting and compliance ad hoc projects as needed.

Requirements:

  • 3 years of experience, ideally within a late-stage start-up or publicly-traded company with SOX controls and compliance requirements.
  • CPA highly preferred; strong understanding of GAAP is required; IFRS a plus.
  • Systems-savvy: NetSuite experience is required; Workday experience is nice to have.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work with and analyze large data sets; proficiency with VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, and SumIfs.

Soft Skills:

  • Outstanding work paper organization, attention to detail, and ability to quickly synthesize and analyze data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Systems/Tech savvy, able to remotely onboard, troubleshoot tech and communication tools semi-independently.
  • Ability to proactively and creatively approach problem-solving to execute multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent critical thinking and time management skills, as well as strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships across the organization.
