Accounting Manager

Location: On-Site in San Francisco, California.

Our client, a growing company in the wine and spirits industry, is seeking an Accounting Manager. This role involves overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, managing the monthly close process, and working cross-functionally to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement. The position is on-site in Danville and offers the chance to make a significant impact on the business.

Responsibilities:

• Co-lead the month-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analyses.
• Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP.
• Review the work of direct reports.
• Manage treasury function.
• Review and approve vendor payments.
• Record cash receipts from customers.
• Co-manage inventory accounting, controls, and reconciliations.
• Maintain chart of accounts, master vendor, and customer list.
• Manage new customer and vendor onboarding for accounting.
• Provide reports necessary for excise tax filings.
• Help create and refine supporting documentation for accounting.
• Design and implement effective process controls.
• Coordinate with external auditors and respond to audit requests.
• Perform technical accounting research and analysis.
• Drive identification and testing of internal controls.
• Maintain documentation of current processes and procedures.
• Analyze key financial metrics to advise management decisions.
• Prepare manual invoices and manage the collection process.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in both public and private accounting.
• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Experience supervising accounting personnel.
• Ability to drive process improvements.
• Strong Excel skills (vlookup, index, match, pivot tables, SUMPRODUCT, etc.).
• Experience managing accounting processes in ERP systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance; advanced degree or certifications (CPA, CFA, MBA) are a plus.
