We are currently seeking a Jr. SQL Server Database Administrator. This position is responsible for managing and monitoring enterprise-level database systems. The ideal candidate will be tasked with maintaining current databases, deploying new ones, troubleshooting issues in production and non-production environments, and supporting both internal and external projects while aligning with team objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Maintenance and Monitoring: Oversee database performance, ensuring optimal availability and functionality. This involves error detection, conducting backups, and managing storage resources.
- Backup and Recovery: Implement and oversee backup solutions to guarantee data recovery in case of failures or corruption. Regularly test backups to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Security Management: Assist with maintaining database security by managing user accounts, roles, and permissions. Safeguard data against unauthorized access and potential breaches.
- Performance Optimization: Identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, such as slow-running queries. Apply performance tuning techniques to improve database efficiency.
- Database Deployment: Support the deployment of new databases, updates, and modifications to existing systems. This includes creating scripts, setting up environments, and applying necessary updates and patches.
- Documentation: Keep thorough and organized documentation of database configurations, modifications, and procedures, including records of backups, security adjustments, and performance enhancements.
- Issue Resolution: Address and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner, working closely with IT staff and developers to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
- Continuous Learning: Actively develop your SQL Server knowledge by staying current with new features, industry best practices, and emerging database technologies.
- Team Collaboration: Work alongside other IT professionals, including senior DBAs, developers, and network administrators, ensuring that databases are well-integrated and meet business requirements.
Expected Skills:
- 2 years of experience as a Microsoft SQL DBA.
- Proficiency with SQL Server in an Azure environment.
- Hands-on experience managing SQL Server performance and availability in a 24/7 environment.
- Experience setting up monitoring and alerting systems for SQL Server databases.
- Familiarity with MS SQL upgrades, patch management, and version control.
- Knowledge of security practices, including database/instance security, encryption, and managing service account permissions.
- Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Ability to provide strategic recommendations for SQL Server solutions.
- Understanding of application change management processes.
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with Epicor Prophet 21 ERP system.
- Experience with Microsoft BI Development Suite.
- Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Governance.
- Experience with SQL Server Always-On High Availability.
- Familiarity with database clustering and mirroring.
- Ability to collaborate with contract teams, learning and standardizing their processes.
