Our client, a rapidly growing technology company based in the Bay Area, is seeking a Director of Revenue to lead their revenue recognition efforts in compliance with ASC 606. This strategic role involves reviewing significant customer contracts, ensuring proper revenue recognition, and collaborating across various business units, including legal, accounting, and sales teams. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of revenue recognition in the technology industry, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive process improvements. The position is hybrid, with the expectation to work in the Milpitas office part of the week.
- Lead the accounting close process, ensuring timely and accurate monthly and quarterly revenue recognition.
- Review customer contracts and transactions to identify performance obligations and determine appropriate revenue recognition per ASC 606.
- Prepare and review SSP (Standalone Selling Price) analyses and related cost of sales calculations.
- Perform technical accounting research and prepare documentation for accounting conclusions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Business Unit Leaders, Sales, Legal, FP&A) to assess the impact of revenue on contracts and forecasting.
- Oversee revenue-related journal entries, deferred revenue, and account reconciliations.
- Perform analytical reviews to validate completeness and accuracy of source data and revenue cutoff.
- Review accounting processes and implement improvements or automation where needed.
- Lead revenue-related SOX initiatives and support internal audits for controls testing.
- Maintain and update the company's revenue recognition policies.
- Provide audit support for revenue-related areas and assist with other finance department initiatives as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (graduate degree preferred).
- At least 10 years of experience in revenue accounting, including significant experience with ASC 606 standards.
- Proven experience within the technology or computing industry, preferably at a public or large privately held company.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- CPA license strongly preferred.
- Expertise in MS Excel and familiarity with SAP highly desirable.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional role.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $200K - $220K per year.
