As a Senior Claims Adjuster – Auto Injury & Bodily Injury Specialist, you will manage the full lifecycle of insurance claims, with a particular focus on complex bodily injury (BI) auto claims. You will draw on your experience with major insurance carriers to evaluate injury claims, soft tissue damage, litigation files, and related ICD-9/ICD-10 medical coding. A key component of the role involves retrospective analysis of claims from 2021, 2022, and 2023, supporting litigation efforts and claim resolution strategies.
You will ensure that all claims are handled promptly, professionally, and with precision. This role also requires occasional travel for field investigations, settlement conferences, or inspections as needed.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Auto Injury & BI Claims Specialization

Conduct retrospective review of injury claims from 2021–2023 with a focus on litigation support.

Evaluate bodily injury claims, including soft tissue injuries, minor impact trauma, and treatment reasonableness.

Assess medical records and treatments using ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes to verify claim validity and proper coding.

Work closely with litigation teams to prepare claim summaries, review legal documentation, and support settlement strategies.

Provide expertise in injury causation, BI claim valuation, and applicable legal standards.
General Claims Handling

Investigate and apply coverage for a wide range of personal and commercial auto policies across multiple states.

Compose position letters, non-waiver agreements, reservation of rights letters, disclaimers, and other formal correspondence.

Strategically handle claims using available tools (e.g., remote inspection technology, third-party adjusters).

Manage all communications professionally and promptly—responding within established timelines.

Conduct thorough investigations and ensure claim files are accurately documented to support every decision.

Recognize and report fraud indicators; coordinate with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) as necessary.

Identify and pursue subrogation and salvage opportunities where applicable.

Manage litigation effectively—collaborating with legal teams, tracking legal expenses, and negotiating settlements.

Adjust claim and expense reserves in alignment with claim developments and financial best practices.

Deliver excellent customer service, de-escalate conflict, and maintain a customer-centric mindset.

Ensure full compliance with Unfair Claim Practice Acts, insurance regulations, and internal standards.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS/BBA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
-
Minimum 5 years in auto insurance claims adjusting, with emphasis on bodily injury (BI) evaluation and litigation support.

Prior experience with major carriers is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in ICD-9 / ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, and injury causation assessment.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and industry-standard claims platforms (e.g., Guidewire).
Familiarity with damage estimating, repair protocols, and injury valuation tools.
Licensing: Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain required adjuster licenses for assigned states. Continuing education required.
Travel: Occasional travel for inspections, conferences, and legal proceedings.
These roles will pay $50-60/hr. depending on experience.Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
