Location: Long Island City, NY (On-site, 5 days a week)
Salary: $200,000–$250,000 base discretionary bonus



About the Role
Major established Electrical Contracting organization is seeking an experienced HR Director to build and lead the Human Resources function from the ground up. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and brings deep expertise across core HR functions.
You’ll work cross-functionally with Division Managers, the CFO, and department heads across Roadway, Power, and Healthcare divisions, supporting a workforce of ~300 employees (union and non-union). This role will be instrumental in creating scalable HR processes, launching L&D programs, and improving employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Policy & Procedures
  • Create, implement, and maintain company-wide HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
Learning & Development
  • Design and launch a centralized L&D program.
  • Partner with Division Managers (subject matter experts) to create tailored training and development programs for their teams.
Benefits Administration
  • Transition benefits administration responsibilities from the CFO.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions related to PTO, vacation, sick leave, FMLA, etc.
HR Infrastructure & Systems
  • Assess current HR systems (HRIS: GoCo; Accounting: EmQue) and recommend improvements.
  • Partner with Accounting for payroll, which remains in their scope.
Team Building & Department Growth
  • Build and lead the internal HR team, starting with hiring key roles (e.g., HR Generalist, HR Admin).
  • Optimize onboarding, recruitment, and employee relations practices.
Union Workforce Support
  • Support and manage HR needs for union employees.
  • Ensure union-related policies are adhered to and relationships are maintained.
Integration of New Business Units
  • Collaborate with HR teams at newly acquired entities (operating independently).
  • Host 1–2 annual HR roundtables to foster knowledge sharing and alignment.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • 10 years of progressive HR experience, with proven leadership in a Director-level role or equivalent.
  • Deep knowledge of HR policies, benefits administration, and learning & development strategy.
  • Experience working with both union and non-union employee populations.
  • Track record of building HR departments from the ground up.
  • Expertise in implementing or optimizing HR systems and processes.
