We are recruiting a Payroll Manager for a rapidly expanding company in the Raleigh area. This is a new role for the organization. You will lead the end-to-end payroll operations across multiple legal entities and states. This is a critical role for someone who enjoys owning the payroll function, navigating complexity, and driving process improvements in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage full-cycle payroll processing for all U.S. employees, covering multiple regions, entities, and pay frequencies
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time, including updates for deductions, garnishments, tax withholdings, and benefit contributions
  • Act as the go-to expert for complex payroll transactions and compliance matters, proactively identifying and resolving issues
  • Maintain payroll records and documentation, including standard operating procedures and process flows
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and partner with the Accounting team to address variances and support month-end close
  • Oversee payroll tax compliance at the federal, state, and local level, ensuring accurate withholding, remitting, and reporting
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to support audits, streamline processes, and ensure data accuracy
  • Serve as the primary liaison with payroll vendors and ensure effective use of HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Lead payroll system upgrades, integrations, and M&A transitions
Requirements:
  • 5 years of payroll experience. Some experience in a leadership capacity is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, tax compliance, and payroll accounting
  • Proven experience improving payroll processes and supporting system integrations
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Experience with payroll and HRIS systems
  • CPP certification and/or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or HR is a plus
  • M&A or rapid growth experience is a plus
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company’s 401(k) retirement plan.
