About the Opportunity
A well-established organization is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to join its Finance leadership team. This role is responsible for leading the Accounts Payable function with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, controls, and team development. The ideal candidate brings deep procure-to-pay knowledge, hands-on leadership experience, and the ability to partner cross-functionally to support business objectives.
This is a highly visible role that works closely with senior leadership, procurement, operations, and external partners, and plays a key role in audit support, process improvement, and system enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Accounts Payable team, fostering strong engagement, accountability, and collaboration
- Hire, train, and develop AP staff; establish effective onboarding, training plans, and performance expectations
- Oversee day-to-day Accounts Payable operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and disbursements
- Partner closely with Procurement, corporate teams, plant personnel, vendors, and banking partners to resolve issues and improve processes
- Manage payment runs and banking interfaces to ensure proper and timely disbursement of funds
- Perform reconciliations and variance analysis, including Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI), to support month-end close and monthly reporting
- Oversee vendor setup and maintenance, including payment terms, remittance details, 1099 classification, and sales tax designation
- Ensure proper sales and use tax treatment, including self-assessment when required
- Analyze transaction volumes and workflows to identify opportunities for efficiency, automation, and improved work allocation
- Prepare and review reports and metrics to track individual and departmental performance
- Lead or support system enhancements and new business process or software implementations
- Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, and process flows to strengthen internal controls and standardize processes
- Serve as the primary owner for AP-related internal and external audits, including providing workpapers, walkthroughs, and audit responses
- Continuously evaluate processes and controls, recommending improvements to increase effectiveness and compliance
- Collaborate closely with onsite teams and participate in cross-functional meetings to drive departmental and organizational objectives
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- MBA and/or CPA preferred
Experience
- 10 years of progressive business experience
- Minimum of 5 years of people management or supervisory experience
- Experience in CPG, manufacturing, or related industries strongly preferred
- Background supporting organizations with high transaction volumes, marketing programs, and commodity-based products is a plus
Systems & Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Working knowledge of IBM / AS400 or similar ERP systems
- Experience with system integrations, reconciliations, and balancing
