Quality Improvement Specialist
Location: Mid City Los Angeles, hybrid schedule
Industry: Nonprofit/Mental Health
Contract- Long-term opportunity, 1 plus year
Pay: $33-$35/hr

A mission-driven nonprofit organization serving children and families across Los Angeles is looking for a Quality Improvement Specialist to join their team. This is a newly launched program, which means you will not just be maintaining existing processes but actually helping build and strengthen the quality assurance framework from the ground up. If you are someone who is passionate about mental health services, understands the compliance landscape inside and out, and wants your work to have a direct impact on the communities being served, this is a role worth exploring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with LA County Department of Mental Health to ensure ongoing compliance with State and County standards
  • Audit clinical documentation for Medi-Cal, Short Doyle, and EPSDT compliance
  • Conduct regular spot checks and internal documentation reviews
  • Prepare for State Audit Reviews and LA County DMH Program Reviews
  • Generate monthly compliance and quality reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide QA and QI feedback to clinical staff and support new hire documentation training
  • Monitor HIPAA compliance and clinical risk standards across the program
  • Partner with Program Managers and Clinical Supervisors to identify and address service delivery gaps
  • Support data collection and program evaluation efforts
  • Participate in Quality Improvement meetings internally and with DMH representatives

Qualifications

  • Master's degree highly preferred in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mental health services
  • Direct LA County DMH experience is required
  • Strong working knowledge of Medi-Cal documentation standards, including Short Doyle and EPSDT
  • Experience with Welligent or EXYM electronic health record systems is a strong plus
  • Proficient in Excel with strong reporting and data management skills
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable working within an evolving and newly launched program
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred

Why This Role

This is more than a compliance role. You will be a key voice in shaping how a brand new program delivers quality care to some of Los Angeles' most vulnerable populations. The team is collaborative, energized, and deeply committed to the mission. And with a long-term contract of a year or more, there is real stability here alongside the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting contribution.
