FLSA: Full Time Hourly
Salary Range: $15-$16/ hour
About the Position
The Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all curriculum and program activities in one or more Early Childhood Care and Education Classroom. The lead teacher guides the development of children ensuring a safe, enriching and healthy environment. Supervise, train and coach teachers and assistant teachers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the day-to-day operation of assigned classroom, meeting all state, local and YMCA standards including but not limited to, accurate classroom records, health/safety practices, appropriate staff ratios, etc.
  • Plans and implements classroom curriculum, activities, experiences and routines with supervisor’s guidance. Conduct classroom in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of the participants. Manages classroom resources responsibly.
  • Provides opportunities for participants to use large muscles, both indoors and outdoors, with consideration for each participant’s physical and development capabilities.
  • Prepares classroom environment, which invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes the participant. Ensure classroom exhibits high standards in cleanliness and presentation.
  • Facilitates a positive classroom environment and the development of self-control in participants through the use of positive guidance techniques; expectations match and respect participant’s developing capabilities.
  • Utilize a diverse selection of materials, equipment and experiences for all enrolled children, including multicultural, non-sexist, and anti-bias.
  • Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, training, supervision and interactions with others. Maintains on-going communication with supervisor.
  • Communicates regularly with classroom parents; attends parent/family events as designated.
  • Upholds the Association’s Child Protection policies, child abuse and neglect guidelines, and proper reporting procedures. Exemplifies the YMCA’s principles of Character Development, Asset Development, Member/Participant Service and programs which build “strong kids, strong families, strong communities.”
  • Adhere to established association standards.

Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age with a High School diploma or GED. Must possess Associates degree or CDA or have documented Career Pathways level 3 and working toward NAEYC Accreditation qualifications or meet state of Kentucky qualifications for sites in Kentucky.
  • Meet all licensing requirements under the Depart of Human Services of the state and local governments.
  • Must complete and maintain current status in First Aid, Common Childhood Illnesses, Child Abuse Prevention and CPR.
  • Must possess and demonstrate ability to engage in all activities associated with the daily care, activities and routines of the program including but not limited to: interacting with children at floor level; physical education activities, field trips and swimming as needed.
  • Must possess visual, auditory, oral and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
  • Capable of directing the daily administrative, program related, and supervisory responsibilities of an Early Childhood Care and Education program

Work Environment And Physical Demands
Must be able to operate music and studio equipment. Regularly required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and transport materials as needed.
